New Moon Tattoos Vs. Star Trek Tattoos

Tuesday November 24, 2009
So, I went and saw Twilight: New Moon Sunday night and I took a special interest in the tattoos worn by the Wolf Pack boys. It was difficult seeing the details of the design in the movie, but it appeared to be a roundish shaped tribalesque type pattern. It didn't seem to be anything overly complicated and it wasn't really possible for me to form an opinion about the tattoo itself when I really couldn't see it clearly. However, the application was pretty good - I noticed that they did make a distinction between Jacob's tattoo, which was brand new, and the other pack boys' ink, which accurately looked duller and more aged.

Once I got back home, though, I did some searching and found an image that shows the details of the Wolf Pack tattoo. It's actually more intricate than it appeared from a distance. I saw the larger wolf face immediately, but I actually had to stare at it for about 2 minutes before I saw the two smaller wolves facing each other. It's a bit like an ink blot image but more balanced and purposeful.

How and why they got the tattoos was not explained in the movie, and the presence of tattoos weren't in the book at all that I recall, so I'm guessing that it was creative license on the part of the production crew. It would have been nice to have seen some kind of story behind the application of the tattoos as some sort of initiation into the pack. I'm hoping to talk to some people this week who might be able to shed some light on this for me and my fellow Twilight fans. Keep checking back.

How the Romulan Tattoos Were Created for the Star Trek 2009 Film

Sunday November 22, 2009
If you've seen the new Star Trek movie (recently released on DVD/Blu Ray), then you know that there are some interesting tattoos on the Romulan characters. What you may not know is how much thought and work goes into creating movie tattoos like the ones worn by Nero and his crew. Actually, I didn't know either, so I spoke with Neville Page, one of the head design artists for the movie, to find out what it took to design and apply the tattoos for this film.

Forum Discussion: When is it Safe to Wear Socks Again?

Sunday November 22, 2009
Juggie87 writes: "Now that my new ankle tattoo is a week old, can I go back to wearing knee high cotton socks? The tattoo artist told me I had to wear ankle socks for a while. I don't like ankle socks. I always wear regular cotton knee socks pulled up. How long do I need to keep the sock off the tattoo?"
