This beautiful bird tattoo was artfully inked by tattoo artist "Sharktooth" from San Diego, California.I don't really know what kind of bird this is supposed to be, or if it is a fantastical creation. It seems to resemble a cross between a Bird of Paradise and a Phoenix. If anyone happens to know what kind of bird this is actually intended to be, please email me. However, it's still really beautiful to look at - regardless of what it is.
Update:The emails have been coming in all day and I've got more votes for Peacock than anything else. One reader pointed out the "tuft" on the top of the head, which does look very Peacock-ish. Although I don't think it was the correct bird, another reader guessed that maybe it was a Quetzal. I had never heard of it, so I looked it up - what a cool little bird! If you're interested in birds, check out About.com's very own birding site to learn lots about these feathered creatures.

The beautiful bird tattoo photo you have is not a peacock. This is a phoenix. The phoenix is a mythical bird that lives with fire and is reborn from its ashes. It has great meaning!
Im thinking that it might be a phoenix.
it’s a phoenix. the original artwork was done by a man named Orelozi in italy, the tattoo artist just followed his tracings.
This is a phoenix, which is commonly drawn with the features of different real-world birds, like the peacock.
This is a phoenix. I am actually getting this tattoo on January 2nd. I will send pics and story once it is complete. I am so excited!!!

This is a phoenix! I too am getting this one on my shoulder…… but my tattoo artist is extending the tails to go down my back and around my hip…… should be nice once finished….will try to post pics once its done!
So, I had a client bring in a drawing of this tattoo that she said her brother had drawn. I did this tattoo in November of last year. I was pretty shocked to randomly come across this photo you have posted. To me, it looks like there is a woman’s face hidden in it.
