In the News - Ohio Adds New Service Tax on Tattoos
Friday August 1, 2003
The state of Ohio has recently added a new tax that goes into effect today. The tax is being added onto personal services such as massages, taxis, deliveries and yup, you guesssed it - tattoos. Now Ohio patrons will be paying an additional 7% charge for these services that were once tax-free.
What kind of impact, if any, do you think this will have on Ohio tattoo artists? Will customers start driving out-of-state just to save on the tax? Or will they tip their artists less to compensate for the extra charge? Or will they just accept it and pay it like they do on everything else?
GinaLatina says this on the message board, "I'm not from Ohio but I think if there are better artists in Ohio than there are [any]where else, [people] will stay no matter how much it is. I think in order for artists to keep their clients, [they're] gonna have to work ten times harder, especially when it comes to customer care...I personally wouldn't leave my artist just because of a tax." Hey, are you sure this ever went into law, or even practice? I’ve NEVER seen anyone I know apply a sales tax. Let me know, okay?
