Question of the Week - Hairy Tattoos?
Saturday October 18, 2003
Q: I am a hairy guy; if I were to get a tattoo, then have my hair grow over it, would that greatly affect the overall appearance of the tattoo?
A: Well, I guess it just depends on how thick the hair is in the location where you put the tattoo, but hair growth certainly can affect the way a tattoo looks if it's really dark or thick. If you really don't want the image covered or changed in any way, it's best to avoid excessively hairy areas of the body or be prepared to shave it every few days. Dense hair tends to act as a screen, and can hinder your tattoo from clear view. Of course, you could always be creative and use your own hair growth as part of your tattoo design, making it an asset rather than a hinderance.

One of the best tattoos I have ever seen was a guy’s back, he had a lion’s head using what would probably be unattractive back hair as the fur of the lion.
Get creative!!
I have the same problem, being hairy. Unless you are really a werewolf (i”m close) Just pick a spot with little, or light coloured hair. Some of mine are on my feet. Tattoos should mean more to you than viewers anyway.
