Question of the Week - Excessive Bleeding

Sunday January 11, 2004
Q: If you get your tongue pierced, is it possible that you'll wake up with mouthfuls of blood? It happened to my friend but I've never read about it happening.
A: NO piercing should cause an excessive amount of bleeding. If it does, something was done improperly and you should see a doctor if you can't get the bleeding to cease. Then once the bleeding stops, you need to see a professional piercer (preferably not the one you were pierced by) and have the piercing examined to see if it was, in fact, done dangerously incorrect. It may be necessary to remove the piercing, allow it to heal and then repierce it properly at a later date.
