In the News: Kentucky Discriminates Against Body Art - 3 Fired, 1 Resigns
Sunday May 30, 2004
A state park in Burnside, Kentucky has come under fire for descriminating against tattooed and pierced laborers who were already employed there. A new policy banning visible tattoos and ear piercings (except for one set of lobe piercings for females) resulted in the termination of three employees. Long hair on men and untucked shirts were also listed as unacceptable in the new policy, citing professionalism as the reason for this mandate. Oddly, though, these employees' work responsibilities include cleaning toilets, cutting grass and removing trash amongst other similar duties. Yes, I'm quite sure that the toilets and trees have been highly offended by their visible tattoos and untucked shirts. :S
