Tat of the Week - Swallowtail Butterfly

Sunday May 30, 2004
swallowtailblog.jpgThis Swallowtail butterfly tattoo is my selection for this week's featured art. This is an exceptional version of a basically simple design. It was inked by tattoo artist Larry deMoss from New Needle Tattoo in Dickson, Tennessee. (As of July 2007, it appears Larry is no longer working at New Needle, but is planning to open his own shop after the Sturgis Rally this year. See his Myspace page to contact him in the meantime) Larry has been tattooing for over 12 years, which is apparent in his artwork. What I find particularly attractive about this tattoo is the subtle shadowing below the picture that turns a plain, flat butterfly into a lifelike resting insect. This is the mark of an artist who understands that tattoo art is much more than just coloring inside the lines.

To view more of Larry's talented inkwork, you can visit his MySpace Page.
