Forum Discussion - Titanium Jewelry Vs. Surgical Stainless Steel?

Sunday October 10, 2004
MopiGothi writes: "By virtue of the content of stainless steel it is possible to have a bad batch that will release more nickel than hoped for; however this is rare. Titanium contains no nickel and there has been no recorded reactions to titanium within the human body.

So, there is a small chance that titanium will be better. Personally I prefer the colour of titanium over that of steel, and...I stick to titanium and .9999 platinum. For the most part, proper inplant grade steel won't cause any more problems, [but] if you're scared it will, go with titanium, Implantanium, platinum, 18ct palladium/gold with gold, niobium or PTFE/PMMA."

I agree with everything you said here. Titanium is a more attractive metal and it’s much tougher than steal. That said I’ve been buying titanium jewelry ever since I looked at mens titanium wedding bands for my then soon to be husband. Ever since then I’ve gotten my hands on several rings and some bracelets too. I’m now turning to the multicolored titanium jewelry for necklaces and the like. I think overall titanium offers more options up to people who like jewelry and is far more affordable than gold and plantinum.

While I like both stainless steel and titanium jewelry, I find that there are more choices for stainless steel products compared to titanium. I have been shopping online for men’s jewelry for a while and recently I discovered a site from China called The China Inventory which has great price.

I have owned titanium and surgical steel rings. The titanium ring has stood up to several hours of scuba diving very well, with no deterioration in the color or ring. My steel ring, however has lost its luster and seems to be changing colors. I bought my ring at the Titanium Ring Shop and would buy titanium rings from them again.
