Forum Discussion - Are All Doctors Judgemental About Body Art?

Sunday May 8, 2005
minalin writes: "Is it just me or are just about all doctors really judgemental about piercings? I recently went to a doc who on finding out about my nipple piercings said, "Well, sometimes you need to think about the consequences before you become a slave to fashion." I was speechless, there wasn't even anything wrong with my piercings so what exactly was that supposed to mean? So, how about the rest of you?"

I just wanted to say that physicians can be really conservative. However, if it helps at all, I will be entering medical school next fall and have a tongue piercing, an industrial, an upper cartilage piercing and two orbitals with plans to get a nose piercing. I will definitely try my hardest to make patients feel comfortable with their piercings and I really want to hang on to mine. I just hope I can find other docs who feel the same way. I am sorry your doc was such a jerk!
