Forum Discussion: New Tattoo Looks Dull/Faded

Sunday December 4, 2005
Julia85 writes: "I got a tattoo last week on my low back and it's peeling which I heard is normal. It is also looking dull and faded at the parts where it already peeled. I'm worried that it's going to stay like that and it would be a dissapointment cuz it's my first one. If anybody knows anything, please write back."

Usually, most people actually go through two healing stages. The first is what everyone thinks of — peeling, the itching, falling off scabs. You’ll notice that when the scabs fall off that there might be a wierd sheen to the now exposed area that makes the tattoo look dull — this is the second stage. Your tattoo is still healing. After a few days this should also go away and you should have a beautiful, brightly colored, dark tattoo. Now keep in mind, it will never be quite as dark as in the shop — that’s because in the shop you still have quite a bit of ink on the surface. If your tattoo completely heals and it still looks bad, go back to the tattooist. Most tattooist will touch up their own work for free.
