In the News: Phoenix's Bad Tattoo; Steelers Fan; Christians & Tattoos; Shop Forced Out
Sunday January 22, 2006
Actor Joaquin Phoenix has been wanting a tattoo for a long time. Well, he finally got one - and it sucks. He didn't want to follow any trends, so he got his interpretation of a "nothing" tattoo - a circle, which was reportedly badly drawn. I have yet to find an actual picture of this tattoo.
How do you show loyalty to your favorite icon(s)? Ron Vergerio, an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan, shows it through his tattoos. Over 200 hours worth of ink - and some really stunning artwork - is Vergerio's way of supporting his favorite football team. The artist, Chris Blick, is the owner of American Tattoo Company in Verona, Pennsylvania.
Christian Research magazine wrote an article - although I haven't seen it - endorsing tattoos. Frederick Meekins thinks they're just jumping on the bandwagon and that tattoos are "vandalism against the body" and writes an article clearly expressing his disapproval. This small-minded article written by an even smaller-minded man is good for a chuckle or two.
Last but not least, a tattoo shop has been forced out of its 19-year location due to new construction taking over. The shop's owner was given only a few days notice to vacate the premeses.
