Forum Discussion: Are Large Tattoos on Women Sexy?

Sunday March 5, 2006
ohnikki writes: "I'm seriously contemplating getting a half sleeve. I have several other tats, large flowers on my lower back, nautical star on back of neck, and swallows on my hips...My dilemma is that I'm a girly girl and not sure how men will react to such a large and blatant tattoo. What do you think?"

I have several large tattoos and the men can’t get enough of them. They love to caress and kiss them, because they are exotic. The thing to remember is that you aren’t a man and your tattoos should reflex your gender and you sexual orientation. Go for it. I have a great man who has a good career and no tats!

well if you are worried what men will think maybe you should re-think your decision on getting it. A large tattoo is a personal decision-if your involved with someone then you probably should discuss it with them–if your not well what is the problem? Noone decides for me what I should or should not do–you should be more concerned about what the design will be and the artist involved than what men (in general) think–personally I have a left arm half sleeve started with beadwork and a chrysanthemum–it looks like a piece of jewelry-its awesome–and I will tell you that men DO like them–even the ones who look very conservative–we all know men are contradictory –say one thing and do another sooo…….

I am a woman thinking of getting a tattoo and my boyfriend is ok with it. My opinion is that a big arm tattoo looks tacky. I wouldn’t go there. Everyone has completely different ideas on this one though. I am sure some guys do love it.

I too am considering getting a half sleeve. I have 4 other tattoos and cant get enough of them. My husband is very against me getting a half sleeve and the fact that I am an accountant is something to consider since I would always have to cover it at work. I think that if you get a beautiful piece of art that is very feminine a half sleeve can be very classy and sexy. Just do your research as I am now.
Good luck and follow your gut!

I think that is really cool. I love tattoos. I am getting one on my lower arm, not very big, but very visiable. I say go for it!!!

I have been looking for more than a year to find the correct back piece for me. My husband finds it a turn on and I can’t wait. My only apprehension is my children. But it will be tasteful and I don’t give a damn what anybody else thinks! It’s for me. If I should be alone with my children, I won’t give a stuff what a new man would think. If he is willing to take on three children a backpiece won’t mean much! Besides I’m to old to care.

Go for it! There is nothing sexier than a full back tattoo on a woman, but any where on the body will do, including a sexy sleeve. Sooo Hottt!

Whatever makes you happy! Other people’s opinion does not matter.

I don’t think ALL half sleeves are tacky. It depends on what you get and who does it. Some people can pull it off and some can’t. Who knows, you might be one of the ones that CAN!

I personally love tattoo’s and have 7 right now. I have a half sleeve on my right arm and I’m about to get a full sleeve on my left arm. I don’t care about other people’s opinions of tattoo’s. I actually have changed many people’s minds on tattoo’s because of how nice mine are. I can pull off anything, I consider myself lucky. I am told by complete strangers how hot I look all the time with my tattoo’s. I in no way look like a man like I see some people commenting about women with sleeve tattoo’s. Those people are close minded and need to get out more. Art is beautiful! I look at it as your body is your canvas. Decorate it! Just make sure you go to someone who does amazing work. You get what you pay for. Unless you know the artist, cheap tattoo’s look cheap. Good luck!

I believe you should not worry about what other people think, a tattoo is a journey and you should get it for your own sake. I agree that a tattoo that is done poorly and with little thought is tacky, but a real tattoo is a work of art that should be proudly displayed regaurdless the responce. If you want the sleeve you should get it. Who cares what anyone thinks. I personally get alot of compliments on my tattoos, but there are also those who think I need to hear their reason for not getting one. My tattoos are my story and I enjoy peoples responces good or bad, I am a canvas, an ever on going project, and I am very proud of that. My back was started three weeks ago, minus the angel and bowtie. I have enjoyed the hours spent under the needle and look forward to my next session at the end of the week.

Tattoos are very personal and should be done to please yourself not anyone else. I waited til my son was in high school to start my sleeves. I do know some people are very close minded although that is changing. I have had negative comments about getting a sleeve done but I am almost 50 with bad legs and no bikini body and I do want to show off the beautiful work on my body so the arms got it!
I do not regret starting sleeves, my parents celebrateed thier 50 wedding aniversary recently and my Mom asked me to cover up, which I did until everyone asked to see them!

A woman has natural beauty. If she adds ink to beauty she will just look silly. And cheap.
