Forum Discussion: Beware of Imposters

Sunday March 19, 2006
Sharptattoos writes: "There was, a while back, a local guy (local meaning in the Long Island/Queens/NYC area) who collected the tattoo art of others and pawned it off as his own online and in his portfolio. He claimed to own a couple of shops and seemed to talk a really good game. Until he got the person, who was usually underage, in his chair. He then proceeded to, for lack of a better term, butcher them...What I am saying is to check portfolios carefully. Look at the artists personal artwork. Look for the similarity in style. Check the background of the artist. And if a person claims to own a shop or work in a shop, make sure he or she tattoos you in that shop. For peace of mind and for your own safety and well being. These days you can't be too careful and it's buyer beware. There are a lot of fakes out there just looking for your $$$ and a lot of them don't care who they hurt in the process."
