Forum Discussion: Can You Get Tattooed Directly Over Henna?

I went to consult with a highly recommended shop near me, and they weren't sure and said to do some online research, as it could result in dermatitis. (?)"

I would suggest you let them trace the henna design and apply it to your arm the way they normally do.
Henna is questionable without the addition of pushing it into your skin with the tattoo needle.
The henna might also affect the way the ink from the tat takes .
To be honest, thats a terrible idea. I tattoo for a living every day and I also apply henna. To have the henna “in” your skin, even on a residual basis, would more than likely be cause for infection. Go to where the henna was applied and ask for a copy of the pattern, or look on line, most henna patterns are pretty standardized.
hi there i spotted this question and got interseted and did a little reaseach into this well natural henna is completly non toxic and should not cause any kind of problems as long as the area is properly sanitized and disinfected if anything there are more toxins in tattoo inks than could possible be found in natural henna however many street vendors use PPD (paraphenylenediamine), a black hair dye, which is a very dangerous toxin.if your henna tattoo is black then i strongly suggest you do NOT have it tattooed over as this could cause you some serious problems but if its natural henna it should be fine there are many web sites where you can find analysis of henna and lots of history hope this helps
