In the News: Tattoo Charlie Passes Away

By September 16, 2007

Follow me on:

"Tattoo Charlie" Wheeler, an icon in Louisville, Kentucky, has passed away. The shop was most famous for its humorous "tattoos while you wait" slogan, which can be seen on this billboard sign photo I took about a year ago when traveling in Louisville. There are actually four Tattoo Charlie's locations in Louisville and one in Lexington.

Tattoo Charlie was known for more than just his tattoo work - he was also known for his kind spirit, his generosity and the charity work he did, playing Santa Claus for kids with cancer. News reports say he passed after a sudden illness. He was only 56.

Tattoo Charlie was a class act in bibs…a kind soul with a whip-smart mind. It was always a delight to run into him at conventions and listen to his humor and wisdom. We are losing just too many of our good people in tattooing….sigh.
