Deposit Not Applied Toward Tattoo?

Sunday May 11, 2008
"Has anyone ever heard of leaving a deposit for a tattoo appointment, then not having it be applied towards the cost of the tattoo? My g/f and I just got new tattoos. I went in early in the week, made our appointments and left a $50 deposit. They quoted me a price of $100 per tat.

So this past Saturday we go in and get the tats, when I go to pay, they charge me $200 more. I questioned Eric (the guy who did our tattoos) and he said it is their policy to charge just for a reservation since they are so busy. There wasn't a single customer in the place at the time.

Just seems weird to me. So be forewarned, if u make an appointment at Tattoo City and leave a "deposit" it's actually a fee in addition to your tattoo. We do like the tattoos, just feel we were overcharged." -sharonM45458

If you were getting a very large, custom drawn piece some shops do jab ya by charging just for the artwork. But a $100 job is flash….or simple artwork that took 3 minutes.

This sounds more like a pocket job…call the owner. If they don’t give you satisfaction, call the BBB. And then make sure to tell EVERYONE you know about this. Word of mouth has burnt more than one con artist.

Tell the owner you are gonna post it on YouTube, MySpace, InkedNation…showing the tattoo and telling the story. Give him/her the chance to make it right in a refund. I sure as heck would NOT let them tattoo me again…not disgruntled!!

When I went in for a tattoo in waukesha,i showed them a pic. of what i wanted and they said they’d have to make it bigger to get all the details in. they asked for a $50 deposit just to draw it larger before i came in for my 1st appointment. but that’s the only time i’ve experienced a deposit issue.

I agree, I think that is plain wrong. The only time I would think they would charge a deposit, if it would be a very large and drawn out tattoo and I still think they would put that towards the price of the tattoo. Where in Waukesha did you need to put a deposit down?? I got almost all of my tattoos at the Black Dragon I believe it was called. I do not live in Wisconsin anymore, but that was back when it was still illegal in Milwaukee.

Deposits come off the tattoo price, we do charge a drawing fee of $20 dollars which goes to the artist, but that is for big pieces not a $100 tattoo.

it sounds like a ripoff to me. ive gotten both of my tattoos at a shop that is booked with appointments months and months ahead of time and my deposits have always gone towards the total cost. i would have a word with the owner.
