Forum Discussion: Jewelry Change Difficulties

Sunday May 25, 2008
"I wanted to change my second earlobe piercing for the first time today. It has been 6 weeks and I planned to change the jewelry. I went to remove the labret stud but I can't get off the ball on the end. When I try I end up rotating the jewelry causing pain and bleeding. Is there a trick to removing the jewelry? Any tips or tricks would be great. Thanks." - Mnstn

The easiest way is to use latex gloves, the rubber gives a firm grip on the jewellery and it should release it without a problem :)

As above, latex gloves are the most awesome. You can get a cheap packer for a few dollars or even washing up gloves works a charm. For super tricky ones I’ve even wrapped some gloves around a pair of pliers too. [use tissue to pad the pliers as well so you don’t damage the ball!]

in my opinion, you should never change the jewelry on a piercing until it is very well healed. if your piercing has stopped being gooey and crunchy, that doesn’t mean that the skin inside the hole is strong enough to stand up to removal and replacement. it’s very thin and easily torn, then you’ve got to heal again. it works better in the long run to wait for at least four months to allow the piercing to stabilize.

Here’s an idea…
utilize your piercers expierence and just go have them do it. That’s what we are here for and do! :)
