Forum Discussion - Smudged Tattoo?

Saturday June 28, 2008
"[Got] my tattoo 3 days ago, healing process is fine but today I've noticed that around some edges and corners ink has staind my skin almost as if it has smudged. Will it come off? I love my tattoo but hate the smudging." - Anitavirtual

I only know what I’ve learned listening to the artist as I am being tattooed, but it sounds to me like your tattooer had the needle setting too strong. I had the same thing happen and my new artist redid the tattoo in different colors which made the smudges less noticable. and…it doesn’t come off

That is called the capillary effect. The best way I can describe this is when you were a child and the doctor pricked your finger to get some blood into a thin glass vile. The surrounding capillaries absorbed the ink. And I agree that the needle setting was off. Glad it was fixed.

your artist has a “heavy hand”. ink penetrated into the bruised surrounding areas.
or, its just ink and it will be gone in a couple of days.
