Tattoos and Lotion Containing Retinol

Saturday July 19, 2008
"When I first became familiar with tatoos, Retinol products were only available by prescription, so it never occurred to me to wonder if they were okay for tattoos. I have a new tattoo and my favorite lotion has some form of retinol in it, and it gave me pause. Is there any general school of thought about the use of retinoids on tattoos? And does the age of the tattoo make a difference?" - jzm

(1) Nancy says:

Retinol is made for acne and wrinkles, why would you even consider putting it on a new tattoo when there are so many aftercare products made specifically for new ink work?

(2) William Rafti says:

Retinol is beneficial to the immune system, but I don’t know if it would do anything when applied topically. What is the ointment you are using intended for? Have you successfully used it to heal a tattoo previously? The “general school of thought” on healing tattoos ranges a lot from place to place, and might have no bearing on what works for you.
