Forum Discussion: Normal Healing vs. Color Loss?

Sunday March 8, 2009
sharptattoos writes: "After a tattoo peels, the first thing you'll notice is that the new skin is shiny and sort of cloudy. As the skin finishes healing underneath the colors will be brighter... but they'll never be as bright as when the tattoo was just finished. Remember, now you're looking through the skin to see the tattoo and each color will be slightly affected by your natural skin tone.

Overapplying ointment could fade the colors... but most likely not since you say the tattoo peeled. Over application will cause the tattoo to weep more (which can leak out color) and get gooey, which produces scabs and can sometimes promote heavy scabbing."
