Forum Discussion: Dealing With the Dreaded Nose Bump (Revisited)

Sunday June 21, 2009
Sharptattoos writes: "First... put a ring in it... so air can get to the piercing and when you clean it you'll be able to work the solution all the way through. Don't use bactine on it.... and if you do, make sure you rinse everything away well after you apply it. Anything left in your piercing (which is difficult to rinse well due to the stud) can become an irritant and cause an infection. Oil, even tea tree oil, can clog up the piercing and wont' allow it to breathe. It's also a harsh oil which can cause irritation (see above)... No alcohol... no peroxide...

Don't clean it more than twice a day. More is just as bad as not at all. Make sure you always rinse it well.

If you're not allergic to aspirin... add a few drops of water to an aspirin (bayer or something plain aspirin, not tylenol, etc). Just enough to make a paste. Apply the aspirin paste to the bump 2x a day for at least 10 to 20 minutes at a time. Let it dry on there, but dont' turn it into the piercing. You just want to put it on the bump. You'll do this RELIGIOUSLY, every day, twice a day for at least 2 weeks. You will start to see results within a week and a half. Keep going until it's gone.

Oh... and I suggest a ring to heal only because we've taken studs out of peoples noses a full 5 months after the piercing was done only to have the hole still be fresh... bleeding... unhealed after 5 months on a piercing that should take about 6 weeks to heal. Studs can go in later. Healing should come first."

I’ve had my nose pierced twice and do not agree with what the article says. I have NEVER used a ring in any piercing…it allows too much movement and too much of a chance for it to get pulled. Cleaning…less it more, you should NEVER put soap in your piercings. Salt spray is the best thing to use. And as for the bump..I’ve found tea tree oil to be the best, applied to the bump, not the piercing. Just my 2 cents…
