Following last week's announcement of Amsterdam Tattoo Museum's financial battle, there is even more misfortune to add to the preserved history of tattooing after an Austin-area robbery claims the rare and accumulated photos and slides of America's tattooing pioneer, Shanghai Kate Hellenbrand.
Kate's extensive photograph collection serves as an important time capsule in both the history and culture of the art of tattooing, and it needs to be reclaimed and returned to its rightful owner.
As per Kate Hellenbrand-
"This is a theft against the history of tattooing, not just my own stories. The photos were taken by Michael Malone, by me, they are of the work of Paul Rogers, Huck Spaulding, Cliff Raven and Sailor Jerry and Ed Hardy.
I only want these slides back.
This was a local job in Austin and there are several scenerios I'm following. The police have come and taken fingerprints... If the slides are returned, anonymously, to the Apartment Complex where I live, Dakota Springs, no further repercussions will ensue..."
If you know anything about the theft of this historical collection of slides, please contact local Austin authorities or email Shanghai Kate at firstname.lastname@example.org.
