I visited Las Vegas with my friend John, "The Bodyguard" Epperson, a semi-professional wrestler from the city. We visited (or attempted to visit) 3 studios as planned, and here are the results:

  • Las Vegas Tattoo - No longer exists! Apparently, the oldest shop in town has decided to go "all adult" and is no longer doing tattoos. This was so disappointing, and it came as quite a shock, as these changes were all very recent.
  • Pair-A-Dice - Very nice, and absolutely spotless studio with some apparently very talented artists, but unfortunately, the reception at this studio was less than warm-welcoming. We browsed the shop while one was busy on the phone, and the other was yelling in intervals as he was watching the ball game on television in the back room. After finally being greeted, we exchanged some small-talk, and then were left alone in the shop again with no one to help or answer questions.
  • The Skin Factory - Our Vegas victor! From the moment we walked into the shop, til the time we left, this was the greatest experience I have ever had visiting a tattoo studio....read on
  • The Skin Factory just happened to be the last studio on my list to visit, and I wasn't sure what to expect after my not-so-pleasant encounters in the other shops.

I walked in the door and was immediately greeted with a friendly hello and handshake by Eddie Lin, the owner and head tattoo artist of the shop. I was even more impressed with the wall murals after seeing them in

person, which were all created by Eddie himself. We hung around and talked with Eddie for quite a while. I told him about the "cold shoulder" response I had gotten from the other studios, and he replied by saying, "Most

tattoo artists put themselves on this high horse, thinking they are doing you a favor by putting a tattoo on you, when in fact, the customer is the one putting money in your pockets." Eddie is 29 years old and has been tattooing for 4 1/2 years, but has

been an artist all his life. He loves his work, and it shows in his friendly and professional demeanor. Eddie runs the shop with his wife, Vallee, who works the front desk and keeps the place running smoothly. The studio is also home to three other

artists: Dewey, Jason, and James, and by their talented and colorful piercist, Geoff, who is a self-proclaimed canvas for Eddie's wild imagination.

One of the things I thought that was really great about this studio is it has a pool table right in the middle of the front room floor. On those long, hot days when the shop is full and you're on a waiting list, you can pass the time away shooting pool with other customers.

We stayed and talked with The Skin Factory gang for quite some time, and I had the pleasure of watching Eddie working on some new flash. His artistic flair is apparent in every corner of the studio. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to get inked while I was there, but I'm sure this was not my last trip to Las Vegas, and the next time I am there, I'll be headed for the Skin Factory.

The Skin Factory is located in Las Vegas at 3140 S. Valley View in Suite 3. You can reach them by calling (702) 257-0177 or check out their website at The Skin Factory
