Another piercing that requires just the right anatomy, the fourchette is a less popular piercing among the general population of women. The jewelry is placed over the perineum from the bottom of the vaginal opening. Most women do not have an extra flap of skin tissue here, but for those that do, this is where the jewelry is inserted.

This layer of skin is very thin and can be easily damaged or torn with natural movement if the jewelry is caught on anything. It can also cause pain during intercourse, as it may pull the piercing inside the vaginal canal.

Recommended jewelry for the fourchette piercing is a 10 or 12 gauge captive bead ring or curved barbell. (Understand gauge sizes with this Interactive Gauge Comparison Chart)

Estimated healing time: 8-12 weeks
