Body Art Glossary - Captive Bead Ring

By , About.com Guide

Definition: A circular shaped piece of body jewelry that is enclosed with a bead.
Also Known As: CBR, BCR, ball closure ring
Examples:
A captive bead ring is not held together with the ball. It is the pressure of the ring itself that holds the bead in place. The bead actually has two slight dimples on the sides that aid in this. When the bead is placed correctly, it can spin freely without falling out. CBRs are most commonly made of surgical stainless steel, but also come in niobium, titanium or gold. The beads are usually made of hematite, but can also come in surgical stainless, niobium, titanium or gold.
