Glossary Definition - Labret Piercing

By Karen L. Hudson, About.com

Definition: The labret is a piercing just under the bottom lip and direct center.
Pronunciation: [LAY brit]
Also Known As: lip piercing
Examples:
The labret is a piercing in the dimple area just under the bottom lip. The initial piercing is usually made with a special stud jewelry that has a flat back. The flat part goes inside the mouth and can sometimes rub against the gums and teeth. Labrets have been known to cause problems with the gums, but if the piercing is done correctly this doesn't have to be the case. A labret piercing can have the stud jewelry or a captive bead ring. A labret piercing is determined by the location.
