This is Jane Adler, one of the most experienced and talented permanent cosmetics artists in the country. Jane has been beautifying and improving the lives of men and women for 15 years. During that time, she has honed her skills to a level that extends far above most of her competition. Being what she coins herself as a "structural artist," Jane compares the work she does to constructing a building - starting with a solid foundation and framework and working your way up to the frills and decorations.
In this picture, Jane is reconstructing the eyebrows on her client, Penny, who had them originally done by another artist and wasn't happy with the results. Jane uses the SofTap® method of cosmetic tattooing. So, let's back up a bit and I'll tell you a little bit about Jane and how permanent cosmetics work.
QOW: Petroleum Jelly vs. Petrolatum
Sunday October 12, 2008
Question: I just have a simple question regarding A & D. If petroleum jelly fades a tat why
doesn't A & D when one of the main ingredients is Petrolatum (petroleum jelly) at
53%?
Answer: Even though 53% is a lot, the addition of other ingredients does seem to
make products containing petrolatum - such as A&D and Aquaphor - better
than pure petroleum jelly.
Petroleum jelly, by itself, can be responsible for clogging pores which can lead to infection - not just color loss. If you look at a jar of Vaseline, it specifically says not to put it on broken skin or a puncture wound. But A&D is made to help heal minor skin
wounds and is very effective for most people.
However, there are still going to be those who will have problems using a
product that contains any petrolatum. And sometimes that's in how they're
using it, not in the product itself. Using too much ointment of any kind
can lead to color loss. It's very important to use a very sparing amount.
This is why aftercare is such a controversial subject because there just
simply can't be one product that everyone likes and no one has any kind of
reaction to. As long as you're keeping your tattoo clean and hydrated, it
all comes down to personal preference.

In the News - 2 Tattoo Shops Fall Victim to Burglary
Sunday October 12, 2008
This week, two tattoo shops were broken into and subsequently vandalized, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage. Also noteworthy this week is the stir it caused when a former D.C. council member was arrested for starting a fist fight in a tattoo shop with one of the employees. On a positive note, one shop is offering a variety of breast cancer awareness tattoos and will be donating 100% of the earnings from those designs to cancer foundations.
