Examples: Scratchers are untrained tattooists that usually teach themselves how to tattoo from books and/or videos instead of through an apprenticeship. They do not properly sterilize their equipment, have little to no knowledge of cross-contamination prevention, and are not licensed. They tattoo illegally out of their homes or basements and generally do poor quality work.
