Can hair change the overall appearance of a tattoo?

By , About.com Guide

Question: Can hair change the overall appearance of a tattoo?
Answer: Well, I guess it just depends on how thick the hair is in the location where you put the tattoo, but hair growth certainly can affect the way a tattoo looks if it's really dark or thick. If you really don't want the image covered or changed in any way, it's best to avoid excessively hairy areas of the body or be prepared to shave it every few days. Dense hair tends to act as a screen, and can hinder your tattoo from clear view. Of course, you could always be creative and use your own hair growth as part of your tattoo design, making it an asset rather than a hinderance.
