Miami Ink Synopsis - March 14, 2006 - The Ink That Binds

M.I. Radio Debut, The Tar Pit, Yoji's Domestic Issues

By Karen L. Hudson, About.com

The show starts out with one of Ami’s friends – a guy called Flip. A few weeks back, Ami tattooed the name of one of Flip’s great grandmothers on his bicep, and now he’s here to have his other great grandmother’s name inked on his other bicep. Once again, Ami is faced with the dreaded Script, and after a few failed attempts Garver kicks Ami out of the chair and says that he’ll do it. In no time, Garver has a beautiful Script tattoo drawn out, which Ami then inks. While being tattooed, Flip talks about his great love for his family and Ami is impressed that he was so close with his great grandmothers.

Radio Debut
Nuñez goes on a local radio station to promote the shop, and it quickly turns into a shout-out for any single women that might be interested in this available hottie. Nuñez eats up the attention, of course. The one thing the show didn’t explain was that Nuñez had gloves on and equipment out, and I’m not sure if the plan was to perform a tattooing on the air?

Cindy's Promise To Herself
Cindy has battled an eating disorder for eight years. She has overcome a lot and has made a promise to be respectful of and committed to herself. To remind her of this promise, she wants a tattoo which is greatly suited to Garver. She wants some kind of vining, flowing flowers from the bottom of her shoulder blade, down her side and to the front of her abdomen. Other than that, she doesn’t have any specific ideas and lets Garver take over, which is what he does best. He comes up with a beautiful string of orchids, which Cindy says makes her feel beautiful and feminine, something she hasn’t felt in a very long time.

The Tarpon
Trista (edit: Ami said Nuñez had reeled in another Tarpon) comes in to flirt with - I mean, get tattooed by - Nuñez. She chooses a Gemini zodiac symbol tattoo on the back of her neck. Sparks are in the air between these two and they end up going on a lunch date together. Nuñez says she’s just the kind of girl he’s looking for because she isn’t looking for anything serious. He also says it’s convenient that she works close, so she’s just a “hop, skip and a drink away”. Oh, brother!

DJ Skribble's Cosmic Graffiti
DJ Skribble is a renowned DJ who also used to be a brilliant graffiti artist. It’s no surprise that he’s here to see Darren, with his graffiti art background. DJ isn’t really sure what he wants, but he tells Darren that he wants something like “cosmic, futuristic energy”. How do you put that into a picture? Darren creates a graffiti-style tribalesque design with an “S” in the middle, to go across DJ’s upper back. It looks kind of plain until Darren adds the color and then it all comes together really well.

Yoji's Domestic Issues
Yoji is still spreading himself too thin, but this time it’s his family that’s feeling the effects. He’s been spending so much time at the shop lately that Bridgette is not happy. She stops by the shop and drops baby Sydney in Yoji’s arms and tells him she’s going for a pedicure and she’ll be back in 10 minutes. After she’s gone, Yoji discovers that pedicures take a lot longer than 10 minutes and he begins to panic, wondering what he is going to do if Sydney (who is breast-fed) gets hungry. Yoji and Bridgette decide to go to couples therapy and discuss Yoji’s fears as a dad and how they can work together as a couple more successfully. While they are in therapy, Sydney is at M.I. being babysat by the guys and Ami’s tough-guy persona just melts away with the little cutie in his arms.
