Date of Birth:
I'm a Virgo
Began Tattooing In:
1999
How You Got Interested in Tattooing:
That's easy! Posters of heavily tattooed Rock Stars cut out of
Heavy Metal Mags pinned to my wall at 16!
Favorite Style/Genre of Tattooing:
All of it! I
prefer big flowing pieces, and mid sized work to break
up the creative energy "drain" from the big stuff.
I've been getting really excited about traditional
Japanese style work lately.
Tattoo Artists That Inspire You Most:
All of the guys that came from the "Darkside Tattoos"
era in CT: Joe Capobianco, Julio Rodriguez, Lou
Jacque, Nick Baxter, Eric Merrill. Also: Guy
Aitchison, James Kern, Bob Tyrrell, Boog Brown, Cory
Krueger, Greg Larson, Gunnar, Cleen. To name only a
few.
Secular Artists That Inspire You Most:
That's a huge list. I'm assuming you mean only visual
artists, so I'll leave out the movies, music and
similar entertainers. I love Dali, Red Grooms,
Mondrian, Georgia O'keefe, Ansel Adams, Mapplethorpe,
George Segal, Henry Moore, Picasso, Van Gogh, and MANY
MANY more.
Other Interests and/or Hobbies:
I watch ALOT of movies,
and read occasionally, usually dark fiction, or
biographies. I try to practice yoga as much as
possible, but running the studio has sucked up much of
that time.
Current Studio and Position:
Pure Imagination Tattoos, owner, lead artist, and
piercer.
Best Way to Contact You:
Lately my time is filling up faster
than ever, so to book an appointment call
319-385-3977. Leave a message and I'll call back
ASAP.
Words of Wisdom From Kandyman Joe:
The best part of tattooing is the sense of growth
people experience after getting a tattoo. Sometimes
that is the feeling of opening a new chapter, closure,
a memory, or renewed strength. I also enjoy the
challenge of introducing clients to quality work, that
may take more than just one sitting. Patience is the
key to a great tattoo that flows well and will endure
the test of time.
This is one of my favorite brutally honest quotes: "If great art was cheap, no one would want it." -John Cusack from the movie Max.
