Lobe Stretching Journal - Entry 1
Sunday April 25, 2004
On March 4, I had my piercer stretch my lobes from 14 gauge to 10 gauge. Getting them stretched wasn't too difficult, but that might be because I have an exceptionally awesome piercer. The first part of the taper went in easily, and the cool gel (I think it was KY jelly) helped alleviate the minor "burning" sensation as the hole was stretched. But just as he reached the end of the taper on my left ear, it started to burn really bad. So, instead of just pushing it in to get it over with, he stopped and left the taper in my ear for about 30 seconds to let the pain settle down and allow me to catch
my breath. Then the jewelry went in and the burning stopped and I've had no trouble with that ear.
My right ear, however, gave me a little more trouble. He was only half way through with the taper when it started hurting really bad. He again stopped pushing and this time let it sit for about 60 seconds until I told him I was ready for him to continue. We just chit-chatted a bit which helped calm me down and then the final push and jewelry insertion wasn't too bad. Unfortunately, though, this particular ear has been giving me trouble ever since. The healing isn't going quite as well as with the other one and I'm to blame more than anything because I don't do the sea salt soaks as often as I should and I know I manage to get hair gel and hairspray on the piercing every morning even though I try to be careful.
It is getting better though. I bought a pair of really beautiful 6 gauge gem plugs from Tribalectic for my next stretch, and I can't wait to see them in. But I'm probably going to have to wait at least another couple of weeks, and try to be better about doing my sea salt soaks and not getting hair styling stuff on my ear.
It should be noted that Billy, my piercer, warned me ahead of time that stretching 2 gauges at a time is a big jump and that it would be a lot easier to just go one gauge each time. But, I think I'll continue 2 at a time at least until they start getting really big. My eventual goal is 00g so I'm not going super-huge. Soft lobe tissue stretches a lot more easily than cartilage. If I was stretching cartilage, there is no way I'd be stretching that much at a time.
I've contemplated this stretching for over 5 years now and finally decided to go through with it. Not only do I really like the way it looks, but I also feel that I am more qualified to write about something here if I have personally experienced it. So, I will share my stretching experience with everyone here and hope that I am able to help someone else contemplating it or in the process of stretching.

Way to ruin your ears.
you should never. ever. ever. skip gauges. when you stretch your ears, you need to go slowly. its not a race. rushing is not going to do anything but ruin your ears. downsize (i dont even think that would help at this point) and read a reputable stretching guide before you go doing things like that. and find a new piercer who knows what he’s talking about and who will respect your body and your ears.
welll myself and my boyfirend have done ours ears. he is now currently at 35mm and we waited about a week between each stretch. there is no damage and he ear is healthy looking. it really varies from ear to ear. my ears are really tough so they take alot of effort to reach bigger sizes. My ears are currently at 16mm but i stretched them up to 20mm in one sitting. could have been a big mistake but knew that they wouldnt split due to the nature of my ear lobe and how tough it is. however when i did my bfs his ears they are like built for it. they seemed to glide through.
im stretching my ear, im currently at 3mm, iv got a 4 but im not sure if i want 2 stretch it!, it looks gd but wat bout whenm im older, im 14 soo… n also ive 0rdered some really nice 6mm but im still contemplating really!!! n also should i stretch my other ear, sure itll look gd n match the other ear but ..will my ears b droopy?..plzz help
ello,i for one well never go to a piercer to strech my lobes, for one its a waste of money and for two i dont trust anyone to know my pain tollerence lvl better than me. im currently at 1″ in both ears and still plan to go bigger. its very addicting, my original goal was 5/8 but i couldnt stop. its took me 2 1/2 months exactly to get to an 1″. and yes u can skip sizes i went from 1/2″ to 5/8 and my ears are fine. but you always want to go slow. ive had 4 blow outs 3 in my left one in my right. there easy to get rid of but a pain for the week or so u have them.if you ever get a blow out just e-mail me and ill tell u what to do. the e-net says. DOWN SIZE ! not true at all.have fun its very addicting
well i want to gauge my ears from a 14 to a 10 but i want to go to a o. how long does it take?
Nick,
You should stretch 1 Gauge size ever 2 weeks. From 8g to 6g can be a monster. Going every 2 weeks will ensure your ears heal properly. I started out with a piercer, until i went from 8 to 6. Then, i just went on my own. I bought the tapers off the internet. I’m struggling with my last jump to 0 and I’ve been stretching since November. Had to wait about a month to go from 6 to 4 and 4 to 2.
Just wanted to join in lol. Im on 28mm at the moment (im not one with the whole gauge thing) and its going really well. im on 14 in my right ear i had a blow out about 3 weeks ago and went right basck to about 6 again but its taken me as i said like 3 weeks to gte back to 14. Its always good to downsize it every month or so even if it is only a few mm. It helps strech up. And electric tape is a good way to strech!!
I just stretched to a 00 a few days ago. I’m not sure how it happened but my ears weren’t the same, like I did them at an 8 and then went to 6 and then 4 but only on the one side, I think I must have lost a tunnel or something anyways I then stretched from a 4 on the left to a 00 and a 6 on the right to a 00 and all is well. The right lobe ripped a bit since the jump from 6 to 00 was so big and it hurt for a day or so but I can sleep on it now and everything, its still a bit swollen but should be fine. So stretching more than one size at a time isn’t that big of a deal. It all comes down to what YOU are comfortable with. And having a good pircer is essential. Mine I have been friends with for over 6 years and I wouldn’t trust anyone else to do anything for me. I know some places charge you to stretch, Chris just does it free as long as I bring in the tunnels to be put in. Buying your own seems like more of a waste since you use them once and can’t ever return them or anything, I guess what I would say about that is if you know someone who also wants to do the stretch, spilt the cost of the tappers or sell them to them for cheaper after you’ve done your stretch. Again I’m not sure the cost that is charged to do it at a place since mine has always been free but at least you get a bit of your money back that way if you DO plan on buying your own tappers. Lastly if you are going to stretch your ears by yourself MAKE SURE you are santitary. That could lead to alot of trouble if you’re not. Even if you’ve washed your hands, wear gloves. Bacteria is everywhere and you don’t want an infection. Also make sure you have a steady hand, the last thing you want is something uneven and ripped. Goodluck to everyone, and by the way, they do go back to normal up to a certain point, I had stretched mine to a 2 when I was 16 and took them out and they closed up completly.:) Take care, goodluck

I went from a “mall” piercing to a 10>6>4>2>0 within about a month (starting from when I put the 10 in)
waited about 2 maybe 3 weeks before a 00 and about another 2 or 3 weeks before a 7/16″
I kept the 7/16 for another 3 weeks then to a 1/2″. I ripped a little on the 1/2″
Had them in for about a month now and probably gonna jump to 5/8″
I’ve had some real luck with stretching, went really fast with almost no problems. my half inches right now are ready for a 9/16 dead stretch (i never used a taper until 0g) so going straight to 5/8 ” shouldn’t be too bad
I’ve been at an 8g for 3 months and just tried to move up to a 6g and I’m having problems can anyone help me?
