Glossary Definition - Keloids

By Karen L. Hudson, About.com

Definition: A keloid is a tumor-like growth of scar tissue, caused by some kind of injury or trauma to the skin.
Common Misspellings: killoid, kelloid
Examples:
Although anyone can get a keloid from a piercing, they seem to be most common in those with dark skin. Keloids most commonly occur on earlobes after being pierced. Keloids can be removed by a medical professional, but they will most likely return especially if the skin is injured again. One who has a history of keloids is best off not getting pierced.
