Definition: A gathering or event designed for the bodyart community. Conventions can be specifically for tattoos, body piercings, extreme mods or a mix of all the above. The usually include "live" tattooing and piercing by visiting tattoo and piercing artists, who set up booths to sell their talent as well as t-shirts and other advertising items. Most events also include tattoo contests, where artwork is judged and prizes are awarded.
Tattoo conventions are for professionals, enthusiasts and the general public. Tickets can be purchased in advance through the event handlers, or can be bought at the door when you arrive. Advance tickets, however, are sometimes required for special events and some events are open only to professionals.
