A Legend In His Own Time

Dateline: 02/14/00

 Gill "the drill" Montie

I am sure that most of you have heard of the famous Gill "the drill" Montie of Hollywood. If you haven't, just pick up the March 2000 issue of Skin and Ink and you'll see his pictures there. What you may not know is that Gill just recently moved to Dallas, Texas - and we happened to stumble upon him "by accident" the other night while visiting the downtown tattoo studios looking for someone to do some ink for a friend of mine, Chris Cole.

We had visited every other studio downtown, and were greeted with the usual pompous attitudes that we are all familiar with. Most of them didn't have the time or didn't want to deal with a customer that didn't have a wad of cash and just wanted a small tattoo to remember his trip to Dallas by. Our last stop was Taboo Tattoo. The rest of our group (myself included) had all decided we wanted to get piercings that night and Taboo was our destination, since I had a really good experience there last time. But since I didn't know any of the artists there, that wasn't our first choice for Chris' tattoo. That turned out to be a big mistake.

We walked into Taboo, and got the usual friendly greeting I always get when I go there for piercings. They have front people there that always greet you with a smile when you walk in, and are ready to either answer your questions, or find someone that can. I saw a man sitting there that I figured was probably the artist - Chris found exactly what he wanted for exactly the right price, and the paperwork was filled out.
